Assessments and structured reports

Choose one evidence set to review. These checks help identify questions to resolve before preparing an application; they do not assess readiness or predict a GMC decision.

ONE EVIDENCE SET · SIX QUESTIONS

Check your evidence idea

Think about your current workplace-assessment set. Select an answer for each prompt; no document, patient detail or free text is requested. Your answers stay on this page and disappear when it closes.

1Is there variety across assessors, settings and patients?

The GMC asks for WBAs with different assessors in different settings and on a variety of patients.

2Were the assessment and procedure dates recorded?

Retrospectively completed WBAs may carry no weight. The GMC asks for the procedure and assessment dates and prefers sign-off on the day.

3Is the feedback specific?

Meaningful assessor comments, guidance and appropriate personal reflection are more informative than repeated 'satisfactory' entries.

4Does the set cover required conditions and procedures?

The ENT guidance describes critical-condition CBDs/CEXs and index-procedure PBAs; a few convenient cases may leave important gaps.

5Can each assessment be found and checked?

The GMC asks for an index and grouping by institution and WBA type, with clear references to where each assessment sits.

6Are you using WBAs for the right purpose?

WBAs assess clinical skills in context and cannot, by themselves, replace evidence of a broad summative knowledge assessment.

FICTIONAL WORKED EXAMPLE

A stack of forms is not evidence of breadth

Starting set

Several assessments record “satisfactory” for similar cases with one assessor. A proposed referee knows the doctor socially but has not directly observed recent practice.

Stronger evidence discussion

Map genuine assessments by case, setting, assessor, date and specific feedback; compare coverage with the current ENT guidance. Identify consultants who can independently describe observed practice with examples. Arrange prospective opportunities to address gaps—never backdate assessments or script a referee’s judgement.

This example is fictional, not a required evidence recipe. Do not enter patient-identifiable or referee details into this page.

Check the current requirements

The GMC ENT guidance covers structured reports, workplace-based assessments, currency, indexing and evidence submission. Check the complete current document before acting on these prompts.
