CANDIDATE INSTRUCTIONS

Communication half: Mr Owen, 68, was discharged after an exacerbation of COPD. Respiratory-examination half: a separate 72-year-old patient with stable chronic respiratory disease is comfortable at rest and has consented to examination. Demonstrate a focused examination and discuss the findings card after completing it.

  1. Elicit the patient’s priorities and explain a safe, realistic post-discharge plan.
  2. Demonstrate a systematic respiratory examination, preserving dignity and comfort.
  3. Summarise findings, uncertainty and an appropriate safety-net.
