CASE 01 · CANDIDATE VIEW
A hearing decision at work
A 42-year-old teacher reports gradually worsening right-sided hearing over four years. There is no discharge or previous ear surgery. They want a durable solution but are worried about losing their remaining hearing. Interpret the initial test before requesting more information.
Your task: Describe the loss, identify what is missing before recommending treatment, and explain a defensible next step.
Chart symbols
Air: right ○ unmasked / △ masked; left × unmasked / □ masked. Bone: right [ / left ] masked. Solid lines connect air thresholds; dashed lines connect measured bone thresholds. Hearing level increases downwards. No response is not the same as an untested frequency.
Accessible threshold table and test reliability
Insert earphones; repeat thresholds within 5 dB. Bone thresholds shown are ear-specific masked results. Air masking symbols identify frequencies masked in this synthetic record. No 250-Hz or 8-kHz bone result was obtained.
